Welcome to the admissions page for View Park Prep Accelerated Charter Elementary School located in South Los Angeles at Crenshaw and Slauson.  We appreciate your interst in joining our school community.

View Park Prep Admissions operate via a lottery system.  Please email the Office Manager to have your child placed on the 2007-08 waiting list.

Applicants are first placed on a waiting list.  Next, in the Spring the list is vetted and all families still interested in attending are invited to information sessions. Shortly thereafter the lottery is conducted and families admitted are contacted.

Admitted families have some weeks to decide if they will matriculate in the Fall.  As some families choose other options for their student, a small number of spaces will open up for additional students to fill.

Please contact the Office Manager, with any questions.

Step 2 Mandatory Open House
Once your child’s name is on the waiting list, you will receive a letter informing you of the date of the Mandatory Open House. You must attend Open House to receive your lottery number. Open House is held annually on a Saturday in March. A make-up day is usually offered. Information about the school’s curriculum and academics, school culture, parental involvement requirements and enrichment activities are provided during Open House.

Step 3 Public Lottery
All ICEF Public Charter Schools that have a waiting list that exceeds the number of seats available hold a public lottery. The lottery is held on a Saturday in the month of April. Only families who attended an Open House will have a number in the lottery. All of these families will receive a letter informing them of the date of the Public Lottery. Attendance at the Public Lottery is not mandatory but it is recommended.

Step 4 Enrollment
Congratulations and welcome to the family of ICEF Public Schools! Students whose lottery numbers are pulled will then receive an enrollment packet. This packet includes emergency card forms, the free and reduced lunch application, the parental volunteer contract, etc. Enrollment is held annually in late June or early July.

As a public charter school, View Park Prep is obligated by law to collect socio-economic data on the students and families we serve.  It is imperative that this data be accurate.  We encourage all parents to complete this form, regardless of whether your child will actually participate in the Federal Free and Reduced Lunch program.

Accurate data enables View Park Prep and the Inner City Education Foundation to raise as much state, federal and private funds as possible to best serve our students.

Dear Parents,

Your highest education level attained is an important piece of data collected by the state via your child on standardized testing. It is crucial that your child be accurately informed of your education level. The state uses this data as a metric to categorize schools and compare test results between different schools and sub-group populations.

For example, in the past our students have erroneously reported that 90% of their parents completed college. If true, that would be a tremendous boon to our school community, however it would also make us one of the most educated school parents bodies in the nation-higher than nearly every $20K per year private school in the country. The error made View Park Prep appear overly qualified, and in fact not educating an at-risk population at all.

The point is to be accurate so we are judged and compared to other schools accurately. We do not want to belittle the accomplishments of the students by making them seem to be more priveledged than they actually are. At the same time, we do not want to embellish hardship statisitcs like 100% Free and Reduced Lunch, unless that is accurate.

Please inform your child clearly on whether you have completed High School, some Collge, a College Degree, some Graduate School, a Graduate Degree, etc.

The entire school community will benefit from this gesture.
