High Success Rate is validation for VPP Curriculum

Los Angeles, CA − October 14, 2005 − The View Park Preparatory Accelerated Charter High School students performed extremely well on the most recent Math and English portions of California’s High School Exit Exams.

“Eighty three percent of our sophomores successfully passed the Math test, while ninety one percent successfully passed the English portion”, stated High School Director Robert Schwartz.

The View Park Prep Accelerated Charter High School employs the Accelerated Schools model that mandates teaching a curriculum normally reserved for gifted and talented students, to all students. Through innovation, professional development, and teacher collaboration, VPP has been delivering such a curriculum, teaching material typically one grade level ahead of traditional public schools, to all students.

“We are pleased, but not satisfied with these results,” states High School Director, Robert Schwartz. “Our goal remains constant-to prepare students to succeed at the best colleges in the nation. Our goal for this exam is that 100% of our students pass all parts of the exit exam and we will continue working towards that goal.”

The View Park Preparatory Accelerated Charter High School resides in the Crenshaw District of Los Angeles. It makes up one part of a family of three schools located in the struggling area of South Los Angeles bordered north by I-10, west by La Cienega Blvd., south by I-105 and east by the 110 fwy. These three schools are ranked at the tops of their respective categories for all of Los Angeles Unified School District schools in this area of South LA.

The family of View Park Prep Accelerated Charter Schools’ success has led to a combined waiting list of over 4,000 students for 560 seats – over seven times the schools’ capacity.

The View Park Preparatory Accelerated Charter High School is a public charter school where students are randomly selected to attend through a lottery. The View Park Preparatory student body is over 95% African-American and the majority of matriculated students reside in the Crenshaw district of South Los Angeles.
